Northern Health sees 165 COVID cases reported on Thursday

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 165 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region on Thursday.

The number of active cases in the region dropped by 39, down to 1,147 on Thursday, according to data reported by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. As of Thursday, there were 30 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the north,the B.C. CDC reported, of which eight were intensive care.

No new deaths were reported in the Northern Health region on Thursday, leaving the region’s death toll at 283.

As of Thursday, 89.7 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 83.7 per cent had received a second dose. In addition, 43 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received a third dose.

As of Jan. 22, 89 per cent of people aged 12 and older in the Prince George local health area had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 84 per cent have received two doses.

During the week of Jan. 16 to Jan. 22, there were 532 new cases of COVID-19 in the Prince George area, the B.C. CDC reported.

Nearly 10.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 493,109 in the Northern Health region.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 24,094 cases of COVID-19 in northern B.C.
