Northern Health sees 118 new COVID-19 cases, one death, 81 hospitalized

81 people are hospitalized in the region with COVID-19.

In the past 24 hours, there have been 118 new cases of COVID-19 discovered in Northern Health and the province is now reporting 915 active cases in the region.

There has also been another death in Northern Health among 11 new deaths throughout B.C.

There are currently 81 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Northern Health with 13 of them in critical care.

Province-wide there have been 813 new cases today and there are now 6,185 active cases in B.C.  OF the active cases 340 individuals are in hospital and 146 are in intensive care.

The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The province is also battling 22 active health care outbreaks including one at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. (UHNBC) and long-term care facility Jubilee Lodge in Prince George.

From Sept. 21-27, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 71.9 per cent of cases and from Sept. 14-27 they accounted for 80.8 per cent of hospitalizations.

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 24.6 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.

The province is also reporting that as of Sept. 29 87.9 per cent or 4,074,112 of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 80.8 per cent or 3,745,457 have received their second dose.

In addition, 88.4 per cent or 3,823,614 of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 81.6 per cent 3,529,426 received their second dose.
