The latest community immunization report from Northern Health was released yesterday (Nov. 2) and shows that 73 per cent of the northern B.C. population are fully immunized with two doses.

Those numbers are broken down further into community health service areas. Vaccination rates in Prince George are listed under five different areas of the city.

For Prince George North and Central 79 per cent are fully immunized, while Prince George Southwest 85 per cent are fully immunized whereas southwest rural 72 per cent are and north Fraser rural only 70 per cent are fully immunized.

The vaccination rates are lower in other areas of the northern interior like Vanderhoof where only 65 per cent are fully immunized and Vanderhoof rural where only 58 per cent have both doses.

In the northeast which has had some of the lowest vaccination rates, Northern Health shows that 77 per cent of residents in Fort St. John have now received a first dose of vaccine as of Nov. 2, with 66 per cent having received a second dose.

A total of 210 first doses and 331 second doses were given last week, according to the data.

In today's (Nov. 3) pandemic update, BC is also reporting only 37 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health and the number of active cases in the region has dropped to 550.

Province-wide, B.C. is reporting 430 new cases of COVID-19 and 4,373 active cases with 137 individuals currently in intensive care.

However, because of a data error the province is not including the number of people in hospital in today’s update. In the past 24 hours there were six new deaths for an overall total of 2,192 all of which occurred in Fraser Health, Interior Health or Island Health.

The province is also reporting 40 active healthcare facility outbreaks including outbreaks at the University Hospital of Northern BC, GR Baker Memorial Hospital, Bulkley Valley District Hospital and Wrinch Memorial Hospital all within Northern Health.

From From Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 64.5 per cent of cases and from Oct. 19 to Nov. 1 they accounted for 72.4 per cent of hospitalizations.

Since December 2020, the province has administered 8,278,198 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
