Northern Health pandemic death toll nearing 300

Two more COVID-related deaths were reported in the Northern Health region on Thursday, bringing the number of deaths in the region this week up to eight.

As of Thursday, a total of 299 people in northern B.C. have died of COVID-19, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported. There were 54 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the north, including 13 in critical care, the B.C. CDC reported.

A total of 123 new cases were reported in the Northern Health region on Thursday. Earlier this month, the B.C. CDC stopped reporting the number of active cases.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 27,615 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region.

Nearly 11.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 515,405 doses in the Northern Health region.
