Northern Health offers community grants

Northern Health is opening up the applications for this year's Partnering for Healthier Communities grants.

Northern Health is opening up the applications for this year's Partnering for Healthier Communities grants.

Applicants can vie for two streams, Partnering for Healthier Communities or Imagining Community Resilience, in an effort to support "emerging healthy community committees."

These committees often include community organizations and are co-chaired by local government and Northern Health and together identify community-specific goals.

The first stream offers up to $20,000 for committees new to the program, and for projects that target specifically local issues that relate to safe and healthy communities.

For existing partners, up to $7,500 is available to support the development of programs that, again, address specific local risk factors.

Northern Health said projects should be viable beyond the one-time funding, target chronic illnesses and injuries through education, awareness and action, address marginalized populations to improve their access to better health, and have a broader goal of a positive community impact.

"We know that health happens in communities, and it's our goal to continue to support our local government and community organization partners to improve the health and wellness of communities in northern B.C.," said Kelly Gunn, Northern Health's vice-president of community care programs, in Monday's release.

The application deadline is Feb. 28.
