Northern Health is full of amazing people who day in and day out look after many who need help and one staff member is being recognized publically.

Executive Lead for the Critical Care Program Beth Ann Derksen has been chosen as the winner of the 2020 Jago Award for respect.

The awards are named after former board chair and Dr. Charles Jago, and acknowledge and celebrate Northern Health staff, physicians, and teams who have made outstanding contributions to the organization’s goals, reflecting the authority's values in the process.

“Beth Ann is routinely called upon by managers and leaders across the organization to facilitate team development. This involves helping teams learn to communicate with each other effectively, manage conflict, build relationships, and understand their own styles and personalities and how this contributes to the success of a team," Regional Manager for Organizational Education and Training Amy Blanding said in a release.

"The tactics Beth Ann uses allow individuals to return to themselves and their teams as resources, assisting leaders in learning for themselves and respecting and valuing others.

“Her name has become synonymous with team building and facilitation, as her work is highly regarded across the organization. Be it point-of-care staff or executive leadership, Beth Ann approaches each interaction with respect, dignity, and the genuine desire to support and learn.”

Northern Health's values are listed as:

  • Empathy – Seek to understand each individual’s experience
  • Respect – Accept each person as a unique individual
  • Collaboration – Work together to build partnerships
  • Innovation – Seek creative and practical solutions

The fourth annual Dr. Charles Jago award winners were originally going to be celebrated on May 6, but due to COVID-19 and physical-distancing protocols,  winners will be celebrated with individual prizes.
