Northern Health (NH) has been racking up awards recently for an innovative project, personnel excellence and patient safety.

The latest was won during the Northern BC Business and Technology Awards Jan. 12 in the ,category of Collaborative Research.

NH and UNBC joined forces on an Ambulatory Care Sensitive Condition project led by Michel Aka, NH regional manager, decision support and UNBC's Dr. Waqar Haque.

"The project is a joint effort by the UNBC and NH Business Intelligence teams to use our clinical data and present it to leadership in an easy-to-understand format that they can act on," said Aka.

"We hope that this award will encourage other avenues of collaboration where we can apply the extensive research experience of the university to our applied health care challenges."

The award recognizes both UNBC's Business Intelligence Research Group (BIRG) and NH's Information Technology Services department involvement in and support for the project.

As well Michael Kerr, NH's regional director of quality and innovation, was nominated for a Mentorship Award in the Business and Technology Awards during the annual Natural Resources Forum in Prince George .

In December, NH's PharmaNet (Medinet) Pilot Medication Reconciliation at Admission Team received one of four awards presented by the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council for excellence in quality and patient safety.
