If Bob Zimmer wins re-election in two years, the Prince George-Peace River MP will need to order new business cards.
The final report of a federal electoral boundaries commission has been tabled in Ottawa and it includes a recommendation to change the name of Zimmer's riding to Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies. Zimmer endorsed the addition of "Northern Rockies" as a way to give more recognition to the section of his riding in the Fort Nelson region.
"It is rewarding to know that the commission has decided to agree with my recommendation to change the name of our very large riding," Zimmer said in a news release. "I strongly believe that including Northern Rockies in the new electoral district's name will better represent the people and communities that live within these boundaries."
Although the name of Zimmer's riding will change, the modifications to the boundaries themselves are minimal. The community of Valemount now falls into Zimmer's riding and there was a shift in the border of the Cariboo-Prince George and Skeena-Bulkley Valley ridings to keep all of the Bella Coola Valley communities together in the coastal riding.
The next federal election is set for Oct. 19, 2015.
