The roster is ready and the women are on the road once again for more pre-season games.

The Northern Capitals have finalized their 2020-21 campaign this week and are set to begin a refreshed November schedule that’ll take the red, white and black to Williams Lake, Vernon and Prince George.

The new roster for Prince George’s female Under-18 club consists of 10 returning players and Head Coach Mario Desjardins is hoping they can help the seven rookies transition smoothly.

“I feel like the biggest thing they’re going to notice is probably the time and space they used to have at a different level and that’s a little different at our level,” he told PrinceGeorgeMatters in an earlier interview.

“They’re going to have to make that adjustment and that’s why it’s important to get them into games right away. They look great in practice, we’re really happy with the new girls that came in and the team has bonded since we made our line-up. It’ll give us the opportunities to develop and grow as a team as we move hopefully into January when the season gets started.”

The Caps are also looking for a win in exhibition play following a 0-2-1 record two weeks ago against Fraser Valley at the Cariboo Memorial Complex.

The ladies are also set to come home to the ‘northern capital’ later this month for a three-game series with the Greater Vancouver Comets, last year’s third-ranked team in the country and opponents in Canada’s first-ever outdoor female AAA contest.

It’ll mark the third time since the re-opening of the Kin Arenas, after COVID-19 closed the facilities, that a local minor hockey team will host a set of games in Prince George.

The November schedule starts tomorrow (Nov. 7) at 5:45 p.m. against the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers, and the second of the double-header goes for Sunday (Nov. 8) at 8:30 a.m.

They’ll travel to Vernon the following weekend, Nov. 13 to 15, for a three-game road series with the Lakers.

The Capitals’ Prince George meeting with the Comets takes the ice two weeks from this publication on Nov. 21, 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and Nov. 22 at 10:15 a.m.

BC Hockey’s Female Under-18 AAA new season is expected to start in the New Year, as per Coach Desjardins, but no official announcement has been made.
