Northern Bear Awareness Society is now up and running for another season and enouraging residents to take steps to avoid conflicts with the animals.
Already this season there have been 72 black bear complaints and six grizzly bear complaints, with two black bears destroyed last week.
You can help to reduce human-bear conflict by following a few simple tips:
- Store your garbage in a garage or shed and to put it out the morning of garbage day rather than the evening prior.
- Put your bird feeders for the summer and replace them with a bird bath.
- Ensure composts are kept aerated and mixed at least once a week.
