A 79-year-old man was found deceased on Wednesday (Sept. 30) after a two-week search by northern B.C. RCMP and regional search-and-rescue crews.

Indigenous elder Thomas Dennis was located near the area where he was last known to be, according to Mounties.

He was last seen mushroom picking by another worker along Price Creek Forest Service Road south of Highway 16 near Kitwanga around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 16.

His body was recovered three days after his search was suspended and the BC Coroners Service has since taken over the investigation.

No other details are being released at this time, but police say there’s no evidence to suggest Dennis’ death was suspicious.

New Hazelton RCMP said prior to finding Dennis, he was not prepared to be out overnight, did not have any food or provisions, and was only wearing lightweight clothing.

Prince George Search and Rescue members were also called in to help.
