Bonnie and Carl Niekamp were on their way to go camping a couple weeks ago when they stopped at the Charlie Lake Store to pick up some Scratch & Win lotto tickets.
Bonnie Niekamp checked the tickets with her BCLC Lotto! app and realized they'd won $675,000 on a Set for Life ticket, according to a release by the BC Lottery Corporation.
“When it told me I was a winner, I asked Carl to pull over,” she said in the release. “We were both shocked. I turned the ticket over to make sure we were playing the game right and read over the instructions.”
The Fort St. John couple are close to retirement, and will use the money to travel to see their children and grandkids more frequently.
“It’s a pretty good feeling,” Carl Niekamp said.
The couple hasn't decided what else they'll do with the money yet.
“When it really hits us, we will probably do something — which will probably be while we are camping," Bonnie Niekamp said.
