North of Hollywood gets more funding

The Northern British Columbia Tourism Association will receive $30,000 from the provincial government.

The Northern British Columbia Tourism Association will receive $30,000 from the provincial government. The money is part of $275,000 in provincial government funding to help regional organizations attract and provide services to film and video producers from around the world.

Motion picture and television producers spent more than $1 billion in B.C. during 2010. About 90 per cent of productions use the services of the B.C. Film Commission, including regional film commissions and offices.

"We want to grow the recognition of Hollywood North by continuing to provide great production and post-production services and by looking for new opportunities to showcase our natural assets. It is essential that we provide support like this to the B.C. and local Prince George film industry," said Prince George-Valemount MLA, Shirley Bond.

The Gray just finished a six-week filming in Smithers.

Other notable films made in the region are DreamCatcher in Prince George and Insomnia in Stewart.
