North Nechako Road will be closed to all but local traffic for two days starting Wednesday to allow installation of sanitary sewer and storm drains for a 28-unit housing development near Mathie Road.

The work will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until Thursday evening, city hall said, and will entail digging down to about five metres "which means that the resulting width of the operation will preclude traffic detouring around the site."

Barricades will be placed at North Nechako Road and Foothills Boulevard and near the Parkhill Centre and Pacific Western Brewing and only local traffic will be allowed through until the operation is complete. Signs will also be placed along all routes leading to the construction area.

Two city buses will also be rerouted and will return to their normally scheduled routes after the project is finished.

"The operation is being done prior to the start of the school year to avoid disrupting the upcoming increase in traffic around Cedars Christian School," city hall added.

The affected section of road will be repaved before it reopens on Thursday evening.
