Nominees sought for courage awards

Recipients often say they "did what they had to," but their friends, families and colleagues describe nominees for Courage to Come Back awards as everyday heroes who inspire others to face their own battles.

If someone inspires you, consider nominating that person for one of several provincial awards that celebrate differences, and recognize abilities and achievements in the face of adversity.

Nomination categories include mental health, physical rehabilitation, medical, addiction, social adversity and youth.

Each recipient will have their story featured in a number of media publications and broadcasts, and will be honoured at a gala dinner May 6 in Vancouver.

The late John Morrison of Prince George, a blind paraplegic who was a strong advocate for people with disabilities won the award in 2007. Bob Scott, founder of Drug Awareness and Recovery Team who died in 2008, was a two-time nominee for the award.

Nominations are open to all B.C. residents. Deadline is Feb. 12.

Nomination forms are available at www.coastmentalhealth.com.
