The time has come to honour those who make Prince George a healthy place to live.

Nominations close on Friday, Nov. 2 at midnight for the Healthier You Awards, co-hosted by The Citizen, Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society executive director Baljit Sethi and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

The sixth annual award dinner takes place Nov. 9 at the Coast Inn of the North and honours individuals and groups who have made a difference to the health of the community.

Last year's winners included Dr. Travis Morgan for expanding his chiropractor practice to include wellness and nutrition planning, the Canadian Cancer Society for their Tanning is Out campaign and Dr. Sarah Gray for her research in the field of Type 2 diabetes.

Up for grabs

Ten categories are open to nominees as companies, organizations or individuals.

* Health and Wellness Advocate of the Year - sponsored by the BC Cancer Agency and Northern Health's Northern Cancer Control Strategy - goes to one who has had a positive impact to the region through advocacy for health and wellness.

* Youth Initiative of the Year - sponsored by Prince George Family YMCA - goes to one that has developed or introduced a product or service which enhances the health and wellness of youth in northern B.C.

* Outstanding Multicultural Contribution - sponsored by IMSS - goes to a health-care professional or organization who made an extraordinary contribution towards the health of the multicultural community.

* Health and Wellness Innovator of the Year - sponsored by Spectra Energy - goes to one who has developed or implemented a new approach to enhance the health of citizens.

* Health and Wellness Educator of the Year - sponsored by the College of New Caledonia - goes to one providing ongoing health and wellness education to either health-care providers, students and/or citizens of the region.

* Seniors Initiative of the Year goes to one who has developed or introduced a product or service which enhances health and wellness for northern B.C. seniors.

* First Nations Initiative of the Year - sponsored by Treasure Cove Casino - one that has developed or introduced a product or service which enhances the health and wellness of First Nations within the region.

* Health and Wellness Provider of the Year goes to one who has demonstrated exemplary service and dedication to enhancing the health and wellness of citizens of the North.

* Technology in Health Care - sponsored by Treasure Cove Casino - goes to one who has developed, introduced or improved a technology product or has improved the interface or service between technology and health care.

* Research Award is for one who has performed research in the field of health and wellness within northern British Columbia.
