Nomination packages for people interested in running for Prince George city council are now available.

Candidates interesting in running for mayor or a seat on council can pick up candidate nomination packages at city hall, from the fifth floor offices, or download them online.

The documents contain all the necessary documents and information for prospective candidates.

Nomination packages won’t be accepted until the nomination period, which runs from Aug. 30 to Sept. 9. There is a $100 nomination deposit and candidates must book an appointment to submit their completed nomination package in person at city hall.

To qualify to run as a candidate you must be a Canadian citizen and have been a B.C. resident for at least six months prior to filing the nomination documents. You must be 18 years old by Oct. 15 and not disqualified under the Local Government Act or prohibited by any other enactment from voting, being nominated, being elected or holding public office.

Election day for all local governments and school districts in B.C. in on Oct. 15. The new council will begin their four-year term on Nov. 7 and serve until October 2026.
