On Thursday at 7:42 p.m., the Prince George RCMP received a report of shots fired at a residence on the 500 block of Harper Street in Prince George.
Police immediately attended the area. One man walking in the neighbourhood was detained by police. The man explained that he was assaulted near a convenience store located on the corner of 5th Avenue and Harper Street. He was then chased by a few men to a residence known to him on the 500 block of Harper Street. The resident called police and reported what he may have believed to that been gun shots. Portions of the story were confirmed with by staff at the convenience store.
After extensive investigation, police do not believe that any shots were fired or that firearms were even involved.
As a result of this report, officers in the area checked vehicles and persons on foot. A mobile green Ford F-150 pick-up was located at the corner of 10th Avenue and Highway 97. Officers executed a traffic stop of the vehicle near the intersection of 10th Avenue and Burden Street. The driver sped away at a high rate of speed in what officers believe to be a deliberate attempt to evade police. Officers did not pursue the vehicle in order to maximize public safety.
It was determined that the driver of the truck went through wooden barricades at Duchess Park secondary school. A few minutes later the truck was located, abandoned, near the corner of Prince Rupert Street and 4th Avenue. he truck had been reported stolen on Jan. 3 from a residence on Colgrove Road in Hixon.
