There is no public Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov. 11 at the Civic Centre and no parade due to COVID-19 guidelines.
Instead the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, CKPG and Blake Productions will host a live virtual Remembrance Day ceremony that's closed to the public.
"We ask the public not to come to the ceremony as it is against COVID rules and we would have to ask them to leave," John Scott, parade marshal for the Legion said in an email.
"We are doing everything we can to celebrate the memory of the sacrifice of our veterans and to remind the public of the horror and destruction caused by war."
Starting at 10:30 a.m. CKPG TV will host a pre-recorded and live presentation.
People can also watch the live ceremony through a YouTube channel and through the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43’s Facebook page.
The ceremony at the Cenotaph will be held by invitation only as the maximum allowed to gather is 50 people as pandemic protocols will be followed.
There will be a trail of flags set up past the cenotaph and the public can drive through after 11:30 a.m.
Those who wish to place their own wreaths are welcome to do so after 11:30 so those attending the ceremony at the cenotaph have the chance to leave before others arrive. Please wear a mask and practice safe social distancing protocols.
The Legion encourages people to observe the two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. by going to stand at the end of their driveway or go out on their balcony.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 will not be open on Nov. 11, due to public health restrictions.
The local legion would like to acknowledge the Armed Forces veterans, RCMP veterans, cadet corps, local service clubs and the community that will not be able to attend this important event in person during this challenging time.
