No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region on Friday.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said there were seven new test-positive cases in B.C., bringing the province's total since the start of the pandemic to 2,790. The number of cases in northern B.C. remained at 65 since the start of the pandemic.
"There are 178 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 2,444 people who tested positive have recovered," the joint statement said. "Of the total COVID-19 cases, 11 individuals are hospitalized, six of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation."
The number of active cases in the north wasn't provided in the statement, but on Thursday the B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported that all 65 COVID-19 patients in northern B.C. had fully recovered.
"There have been no new COVID-19 related deaths for a total of 168 deaths in British Columbia," the joint statement said. "We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic."
Henry and Dix urged residents to continue being vigilante and follow public health guidelines.
"On June 21, as we honour Canada's Indigenous peoples and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, as well as Father's Day, let's use this same momentum to stand against intolerance. Let's celebrate the incredible diversity within our province and how this enriches us all," the statement said. "If you choose to come to together with loved ones and friends, take the necessary precautions to do so safely, with kindness, compassion and tolerance."
