No love in tennis court decision

Eleven-year-old Caelan Swetlikoff probably doesn't know who folk singer Joni Mitchell is or what inspired her to write those famous lyrics. What concerns him is what has happened to his neighbourhood playground.

For Swetlikoff, his brothers Aidan and Liam, and their neighbourhood buddies, their piece of paradise used to be a tennis court enclosure on the site of the now-closed Highland elementary school at 155 McDermid Dr.

Two weeks ago, the place they used to practice lacrosse and ride their bikes was, literally, turned into a parking lot. The chain-link fence was removed and the asphalt surface was painted with lines for parking stalls to serve as a second parking lot for employees of the Northern Health Home and Community Care Program.

"I used that place mostly for lacrosse and I was mad," said Caelan. "They should put that fence back up."
