The HEARTS Christmas dinner that became a tradition among Prince George seniors who live on their own has had to be cancelled for a second year.

Tim Bennett, who established the dinner in 2000 at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, for his grandmothers and other seniors who did not get invited to events at senior residences, said his mother Laura, and youngest brother Matthew, who carried on the organizing of the dinner in 2005, were both involved in a motor vehicle accident in mid-November.

"My Mom was banged up badly, but is doing fine. Matthew has had to have a pin put into his ankle and is still on bed rest," said Tim, who works with Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

He added the hope is to re-establish the dinner in the future. The evening that saw every seat filled offered entertainment, a stuffed stocking and a gift door prize, along with the traditional turkey and ham dinner.
