No foul play in motel death

Most details have been withheld, but police are now assuring the public that a mysterious death this week at the Connaught Motor Inn was not due to foul play.

Most details have been withheld, but police are now assuring the public that a mysterious death this week at the Connaught Motor Inn was not due to foul play.

An autopsy was completed Wednesday and the evidence it provided put any RCMP suspicions to rest.

Police and paramedics were called to the motel at approximately 6 a.m. Sunday. An adult female was located there and rushed to university hospital where she soon passed away. Police secured the scene and initiated a crime investigation.

"It was automatic that we would act that way," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "Somebody became aware she was in some kind of medical distress, but she was alive. When we and ambulance personnel arrived, there were no visible signs that would suggest why she passed away in a hotel room, so the precaution was taken to initiate an investigation, including an autopsy. I know it looks alarming to have police tape put up and see investigators examining the scene, but it is actually quite routine because we have to do that sort of work from the start; we can't go back later if we find out after the fact that something was suspicious."

The family of the deceased woman wished for no further details to be made public.
