No earth shattering weather to report for Prince George but lookout Manitoba

Oh, the weather outside is frightful - but only in Manitoba, as usual.

In Prince George we've got colder temperatures at Christmas but the snow won't start to arrive in earnest until New Year's eve and day, said a meteorologist from the Weather Network.

"Normal daytime temperatures for this time of year are about minus 4 degrees Celsius so temperatures aren't too bad right now," said Kelly Sonnenburg. "Into Saturday it will start to get a little bit cooler and you'll notice your temperatures are starting to trend below seasonal.

The temperature is expected to be minus 13 C on Christmas Day, which should be the coldest day for the next week.

"That will be the worst of the weather - the colder air," said Sonnenburg. "And I know you've already gotten a little taste of it earlier on in the month so as we head into Saturday there will be an Arctic front that will start to sink across the province and this will keep conditions dry."

The cold temperatures will be short lived.

"As we head into Boxing Day Monday it will start to warm up a bit," said Sonnenburg. "The bad news is conditions will start to deteriorate - so you gotta take what you can get. A Pacific system will start to move in from the coast and will probably impact the central and north coast and into the interior Monday night."

This means snow. Not a lot. Maybe five centimetres.

We all expect a big dump of snow.

"I think it's almost your location because a lot of areas to the south have actually seen those bigger dumpings of snow but it's almost like you guys are shielded a little in your dome and escaping the snow," said Sonnenburg. "The next system that's moving in on Monday is the beginning of a fairly active week with quite a few Pacific systems coming through - at least three systems."

Which means more snow and milder temperatures.

"The good news is B.C. is really not being significantly influenced by that massive Colorado low that's going to be taking out southern Manitoba on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with blizzard conditions," said Sonnenburg. "We'll just see a little bit of snow in the B.C. interior."
