No COVID-related deaths reported in Northern Health region on Friday

No new COVID-related deaths were reported in the Northern Health region on Friday, ending a week which saw eight people in the north die from COVID-19.
The pandemic has claimed a total of 265 lives in northern B.C., according to data reported Friday by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
The B.C. CDC reported 22 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region on Friday, and the number of active cases dropped to 243. There were 21 people hospitalized with COVID in the region, of which six were listed in intensive care.
Since the start of the pandemic, there has been 17,977 cases of COVID-19 in the north, of which 17,457 people have recovered.
A total of 410,644 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Northern Health region.
As of Dec. 6, five per cent of children aged five to 11 years old and 88 per cent of people aged 12 and older in the Prince George local health area had received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 82 per cent of people 12 and older in the area have received their second dose of COVID vaccine, and 47 per cent of people 70-plus have received a third booster shot.
Between March 2020 and Nov. 30, 2021, there have been 4,838 cases of COVID-19 in the Prince George local health area, the B.C. CDC reported.

At midnight on Friday, new public health orders around events and gatherings come into effect. The new orders allow in-person religious services and larger indoor and outdoor gatherings.
