No charges will be pursued against two Smithers RCMP members who were the subject of an investigation by the provincial government's civilian-based police watch dog after a suspect suffered injuries in an arrest.

The Ministry of Justice's criminal justice branch said Tuesday the available evidence does not meet the branch's charge standard.

The Independent Investigations Office had submitted a report to the branch regarding an August 2015 arrest in the community 371 kilometres west of Prince George in which the subject suffered a lacerated kidney and spleen.

However, the subject had become combative and had to be physically restrained, the branch also noted.
