Man buys bike, bike buys farm seconds later.

That was the two-wheeled tragedy Tuesday as a young man escaped with minor injuries after being hit by a car and driven into the side of a downtown store fresh off purchasing a bicycle.

Police said the incident, which took place around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, happened after an elderly man lost control of his car, mounted the sidewalk, hit the man and crushed the bike against the store.

Staff at Northern Hardware said the young man's wife left his side and came back into The Northern to retrieve his new helmet when the accident occurred.

Onlookers at the scene said the young man suffered scratches and was able to walk to a nearby ambulance.

The bike however, said a witness, appeared ruined.

RCMP said they intend to charge the elderly man with driving without due care and attention.

Alcohol and speed were not factors in the incident.
