Nine new fires flared up over the long weekend within the Cariboo Fire Centre.
Pelican Lake fire is 100 per cent contained while others, including seven lightning strike-caused fires, were blazing and are either out or are in the patrol phase, thanks to early reports from the public and aircraft nearby.
Three were in the Big Bar area, one was southwest of Quesnel, one near Pelican Lake and one near Eagle Lake. The largest lightning fire was about three hectares west of Anahim Lake and it took airtankers, one helicopter and 19 firefighters to put it out.
There was a human-caused fire Saturday near Highway 20 in Chilcotin and it covered about .1 hectare and the initial crew put it out.
Sunday saw a second human-caused fire that covered about 11 hectares northwest of Puntzi Lake where the first attack crew and an additional 16 fire fighters battled the blaze that is now in the patrol stage.
The Wildfire Management Branch is not expecting significant fire behaviour this week in the
Cariboo Fire Centre but crews could be busy as temperatures rise and there are flare ups due to the lightning over the weekend.
