Nighttime paving operations starting this week

Four paving projects in high-traffic zones are starting this week with crew working at night to reduce disruptions the City said Wednesday.

Preparation work will start later this week on George Street between 1st and 6th Avenues downtown with repaving to occur next week. Milling operations will also start this week on 3rd Avenue between Quebec Street and George Street.

Further afield the intersections of Massey and Westwood Drives and of O'Grady Road and Domano Boulevard are also in the job jar.

Weather pending, all of the projects are expected to be completed by next week.

Crews have completed nearly half of the 36 road projects scheduled in 2020, the City said.

The provincial government's work along Highway 16 from Victoria Street and 20th Avenue and to the Old Cariboo Highway is also progressing through downtown Prince George.

As for sidewalks, work has started onnew curbs and gutters along Patricia Boulevard prior to the repaving of the sidewalk along Patricia and construction has started on a new sidewalk along Queensway from Connaught Drive to Lower Patricia Boulevard.

The work will include the relocation of streetlights and irrigation and is expected to take about two weeks to complete.

And the installation of a water main connection to the new fire hall under construction on Massey Drive is expected to continue into next week.

Carney Street, from Winnipeg Street to Ellison Drive remain closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Northbound motorists traveling on Massey Drive who are attempting to turn west onto Carney Street can detour north via 17th Avenue, Spruce Street, and 15th Avenue.

Southbound motorists traveling on Carney Street attempting to reach the intersection of Carney Street and Winnipeg Street can detour via 15th Avenue.
