Canada Post says it's hired a new postmaster for its post office in Manson Creek, but the husband of the woman who previously held the position says it's not a done deal yet.
"Lu Mckone is working in the post office at our place but there is still no confirmation that she is the new postmaster," Victor Dyck said Thursday in an e-mail.
Dianne Dyck put off retiring for a bit more than five months after learning the service was going to be moved to the post office in Germansen Landing once she had left.
With the help of the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association, a grievance was filed against Canada Post. The Crown corporation appears to have since backed away from its plan.
"In Manson Creek, a successful candidate was recently recruited and will soon start assuming the functions," Canada Post spokesperson Mouktar Abdillahi said this week in an e-mail.
Canada Post is also looking for a new postmaster for Crescent Spur.
"We are currently recruiting and while we attempt to fill the position, we will have a temporary replacement to ensure continued mail delivery to the community," Abdillahi said.
CPAA BC and Yukon branch vice president Carolyn Elliott said Canada Post has been slow in finding replacements but she understands at least one person has applied for the position in Crescent Spur so far.
The deadline for applications is Monday. Those interested can apply online at canadapost.ca or, if they do not have access to the internet, they can call 1-877-427-7717 and ask for the careers help desk.
