A new program by the B.C. health ministry designed to seek out and treat those who are undiagnosed or untreated for HIV will begin shortly in both Prince George and Vancouver's downtown east side.

The Seek and Treat program is a $48 million, four-year pilot program to provide access to HIV/AIDS diagnosis and medications to hard-to-reach people like sex trade workers, injection drug users and homosexuals. The goal is to provide better care to those living with the disease through Highly Active Anti-retroviral Therapy, which is free to HIV-infected British Columbians and is now being accessed by about 5,000 people. The second goal is to reduce or eliminate the spread of the virus.
