The number of positive COVID-19 cases continues to grow at an outbreak in two Coastal GasLink work camps, Northern Health reported Thursday.

There are now 53 confirmed cases at 7 Mile Lodge near Burns Lake and Little Rock Lake Lodge near Fraser Lake.

That’s an increase of five in the last week.

On the upside, just six cases remain active, down from 31 last week.

Both camps remained closed to non-essential workers.

In a separate release from Coastal GasLink issued Wednesday, the company stated it planned to limit the number of workers across the entire 670-kilometre length of the project to just 400 in January. That’s the workforce level the pipeline developer says is needed to keep the camps, the equipment and the pipeline infrastructure secure.
