Ness Lake Bible Camp's annual Cans for Kids fundraiser takes place on May 27.

Ness Lake Bible Camp is hosting its annual Cans for Kids fundraiser to help send kids to summer camp.

On Saturday, May 27 a team from Ness Lake Bible Camp will be at the Nechako Bottle Depot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to collect items.

“Our team will be receiving, unloading, and sorting everything themselves so not only will you be helping send kids to camp, you won’t have to wait in line! Do it all in under 4 mins,” said Executive Director Dave Horton.

The Nechako Bottle Depot is also matching funds raised during the event.

“Each summer about 200 kids need the camper sponsorship fund in order to be able to afford camp. Thanks to fundraisers and donations, kids who might otherwise have been unable to come are not left out.” said Horton.

“We keep our fees as low as possible and paying for a week of camp only covers around 40 per cent of what it costs to run camp. We know that even that amount makes camp out of reach for some families. Our hope is that every kid in the North can experience the fun, independence, growth and learning that only a week of camp offers. Campers will enjoy a wide range of activities and new experiences all while building friendships in their cabin group.”

There is also a contest involved with the fundraiser this year. Those who donate at least one garbage bag of items will get one entry in a draw for a free camp session this summer and those who share the camp’s social media post about Cans for Kids will get a second entry into that draw.

If the winner is already signed up for a week of camp they can either get a refund or a second week of camp for free.

The team will be collecting any cans, bottles, juice boxes or deposit based recycling including milk jugs.
