B.C. New Democrat leader John Horgan and opposition finance critic Carole James will be in Prince George tonight for a community roundtable on the provincial government's budget.

"Struggles with affordability" will be the theme, according to a statement issued by the party this morning.

"Christy Clark's budget is making life in this province harder," Horgan said in the statement. "It does nothing to help British Columbians already struggling to make ends meet, and it hikes fees and taxes on everything from hydro rates to ICBC rates.

"And despite Premier Clark's promise to overhaul the medical services tax, in the end this budget just tinkers around the edges."

James accused Clark of balancing the budget on the backs of the province's most vulnerable people.

"She found $100 million to squirrel away in a slush fund. She found a billion dollars to give tax breaks to the wealthiest people in the province. But she couldn't find the money to protect affordable bus passes for people with disabilities," said James.

"This budget says a lot about the premier and her priorities. We want to speak to people about the challenges they are facing in life, and bring their voices back to Victoria."

The roundtable will be held in the Hedrick Room at the Coast Inn of the North, 770 Brunswick St., 6:30 p.m. start.
