Northern Development Initiative Trust is offering their maximum grant amount to two projects in the region through the Economic Diversification Infrastructure program.
NDIT is granting $250,000 towards construction of the Lheidli T'enneh Aboriginal Pavilion in downtown Prince George, worth $1.5 million in total.
Construction on the pavilion will begin this year at the corner of Sixth Ave. and Dominion St. It will be completed in time for the 2015 Winter Games.
The proposed pavilion project will be a downtown venue which will offer direct economic benefits for the Lheidli T'enneh when the building is used as an events and retail space.
The pavilion will have a main hall for performances, a reception area, a retail centre for aboriginal art and other merchandise, a meeting space and a green room for performers.
Northern Development approved $250,000 for a major apron expansion of the Northwest Regional Airport for Terrace and Kitimat.
With the expansion the airport will be able to service three commercial aircraft at one time instead of two. This means less wait time for passengers in the terminal.
The ongoing industrial growth in the Terrace, Kitimat, Skeena and Nass valley regions means the airport will see a larger number of workers and cargo come through the doors. The expansion will mean indirect revenue to local businesses, as well as aircraft fuel providers, car rental companies, hotels and airlines.
