Prince George's first Multicultural Festival, on June 27, gives the community an opportunity to discover the different cultures residing in the Prince George area.
"The festival will have different performers from all over P.G.," said Marguerite Bambi, youth program co-ordinator at IMSS.
"We'll have a fashion show and dancers from all different cultural backgrounds. We have highland dancers and we are hoping that people will come and talk about multiculturalism as well."
One of the main attractions will be a multicultural fashion show, showing off different ethnic dress and costume.
"The goal of the day is encourage people to talk and learn from each others culture and too make it educational and fun. To make sure there is a conversation about multiculturalism because we believe that Prince George is a great place for youth to get involved in the community," said Bambi.
Funding for the event came through the Federal Government, the Department of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Immigrant Multicultural Services Society (IMSS) and from the Prince George school district.
The Multicultural Festival begins at 3 p.m. at IMSS, 1633 Victoria Street, and is open to the public. Organizers hope to attract up to 200 people.
