National Aboriginal Day, an inner-city school and cultural workshops in Prince George all got a funding boost this week.
Three local groups were handed $2,480 in provincial multiculturalism grants for their work promoting "multicultural heritage, and nurture empathy and inclusion."
The Multicultural Services Society of Prince George, Fraser Fort George Museum Society and the Community Arts Council of Prince George and District joined 120 other community organizations to receive funding.
Each helps foster a more inclusive community here in Prince George, said Prince George MLA Shirley Bond said in Thursday's announcement
"We want everyone who lives in our community to feel accepted. That's why we support initiatives like those undertaken by all of these organizations," said Bond in a statement.
The arts council will launch a four-week project at an inner-city school "to create art that focuses on the racism and discrimination experienced by students and their families."
Through its program Our Journey, Our Voices: Embrace Diversity, the IMSS said it would offer information sessions, conversation and sharing circles, cultural celebrations and workshops.
The Fraser Fort George Museum Society's funds will go toward National Aboriginal Day at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park.
Added MLA Mike Morris, "Vibrant, thriving communities depend on the participation of all citizens."
