The tourist amenities at Mount Robson Provincial Park are getting a facelift.

The mountain itself needs no improvements. It is one of the great spectacles and unique geological features of Canada.

It is one of the most popular visitation sites in B.C. and when people come and go, the facilities at the front end of the experience will be fixed up and modernized during a half-year renovation program.

The $325,000 project was announced Monday, the first day of Tourism Week in Canada.

Some of the updates include:

Refurbishment of public washrooms (plumbing, vanities, fans, lighting, tiling, flooring and painting).

Renovations to janitorial room, staff washroom, staff lunch room.

Replacement of main public entry doors, including automatic electric door openers.

New heating and air conditioning systems for the centre.

Exterior painting of centre.

Roof drain improvements and modifications.

Lower level viewing deck enclosure upgrades.

Improvements to main service area.

Renovations to parks office space

Mount Robson Provincial Park is the second oldest park in the B.C. system (only Strathcona is older).

It is located on Highway 16 about 2.5 hours east of Prince George, between Prince George and Jasper. It offers prominent views for highway travellers and effective access for day-hikers and long-trek campers alike who wish to explore the rare area.

With an elevation of 3,954 m (12,972 feet) and a prominence of 2,829 m (9,281 feet), Mount Robson is the second-tallest mountain in B.C. and the tallest in the Canadian Rockies range, with the seventh highest prominence in Canada.
