Morning 'pungent smell' forces evacuation at Prince George structure

Fire Rescue crews found light smoke from mechanical malfunction

Everyone was safe and no fire was detected from a downtown structure on Friday (July 19).

According to Prince George Fire Rescue, they responded to reports of a possible fire at a building on 1300-block, 6 Ave. around 7:15 a.m. that morning.

When crews investigated the incident, they found light smoke and a ‘slight pungent’ smell on the first three floors, later finding a mechanical function from a belt or bearing in the eighth-floor mechanical room.

This caused light smoke to be drawn to the lower floors of the building.

Almost 20 firefighters from four different halls were able to ventilate the building, resulting in no reported damage.
