The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 324 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region over the weekend.
Monday’s numbers were reported on a provisional basis, because of a planned downtime in the province’s health record keeping system. This story has been updated with numbers reported on Tuesday morning by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
As of Monday, 49 people in the Northern Health region were hospitalized with COVID-19, including 15 in critical care, according to the B.C CDC. Earlier this month, the B.C. CDC stopped reporting active case counts.
Two new COVID-related deaths were reported in the north over the weekend, increasing the region’s death toll from the pandemic to 293, the Ministry of Health reported.
As of Monday, there had been a total of 27,239 COVID-19 cases reported in the Northern Health region, the B.C. CDC reported.
As of Monday, 90.4 per cent of eligible British Columbians (ages five and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 85.3 per cent had received two doses. In addition, 52.7 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and older have received a booster dose.
As of Feb. 10, 89 per cent of people aged 12 and older in the Prince George local health area had received one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 85 per cent had two doses. In addition, 45 per cent of children aged five to 11 had received at lease one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
According to B.C. Ministry of Health data, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 23.8 per cent of new COVID-19 cases between Feb. 4 and Feb. 10. From Jan. 28 to Feb. 10, 31.2 per cent of people hospitalized with COVID-19 were not fully vaccinated.
During those periods, the unvaccinated were more than twice as likely to contract COVID-19 as the fully vaccinated (335.4 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people vs. 146.9 cases per 100,000 vaccinated people) and were more than four times as likely to be hospitalized (84.1 hospitalizations per 100,000 unvaccinated people vs. 16.9 hospitalizations per 100,000 fully-vaccinated people.)
A total of 513,495 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Northern Health region, the B.C. CDC reported.
