More than 200 new COVID-19 cases reported in Northern Health region

Active COVID-19 cases continue to rise in northern B.C.

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 203 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region on Thursday.

The number of active cases in the region rose to 1,582, up from 1,504 cases reported on Wednesday. The number of hospitalizations stayed level from Wednesday, according to B.C. Centre for Disease Control data, with 33 people in the Northern Health region hospitalized - of which 11 were in intensive care.

No new COVID-related deaths were reported on Thursday, leaving the region’s death toll from the pandemic at 281.

Throughout the province, there were 2,150 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Thursday. A record 891 British Columbians were hospitalized with COVID-19, of which 119 were in intensive care.

As of Thursday, 89.4 per cent of eligible British Columbians (ages five and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 83.5 per cent had a second dose. In addition, 39.3 per cent of adults in B.C. have received a booster dose.

More than 10.27 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered across B.C., including 481,924 doses in the Northern Health region.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been 22,799 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, of which 20,807 people have recovered.
