The number of people in Prince George and area collecting Employment Insurance stood at 1,690 in June, according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, released this week.
That's up from 1,500 by the same point last year but down from 1,710 in May.
In June, the city's unemployment rate was 7.4 per cent with 46,100 working, 3,700 unemployed but seeking work, and 21,800 not participating.
The year before, the unemployment rate was 6.2 per cent with 53,600 working, 3,300 unemployed but seeking work and 17,500 not participating.
In May, the unemployment rate was 6.6 per cent, with 45,600 working, 3,200 unemployed but seeking work and 22,700 not participating.
