The COVID-19 outbreak at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. in Prince George has grown, Northern Health said in a release.

As of Thursday, seven staff and six patients in the internal medicine unit of the hospital have tested positive.

The outbreak is isolated to the internal medicine unit and patients in other wards in the hospital are not affected.

On Wednesday, Northern Health declared a precautionary outbreak at the hospital after two patients and four employees tested positive. The outbreak is no longer labeled as precautionary as a result of the additional positive tests.

Further testing and precautions are being implemented to contain the outbreak to the internal medicine unit.

As a result of the additional positive tests, the hospital’s outbreak status will remain in place for at least 28 days (two consecutive 14-day incubation periods), pending no further positive tests.
