More recycling options have come into the regional district.
As of July 1, a number of stewardship programs increased the number of products they recycle. New items such as video game consoles, GPS devices, power tools, sewing machines and light fixtures are now accepted by the Electronic Products Recycling Association, the Canadian Electrical Stewardship Association and BC LightRecycle program.
"It's important to have programs like these in place," said Rachael Ryder, leader of the the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George's waste diversion program. "It provides our residents with options that keep these products out of the landfill."
The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute of Canada has also introduced a new program to recycle electric-powered items like lawn mowers and grass trimmers.
Prince George residents can return their new categories of recyclables at the BBK Bottle Depot.
