Canfor officials announced previously their intention to hold this year's annual general meeting in Prince George, as part of their 75th anniversary celebrations.

More details were announced Thursday about that event.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday at the Prince George Playhouse. Following the technical meeting, a reception for invited guests will be held at the Civic Centre starting at 4 p.m.

Presiding over both events will be a large contingent of Canfor's company officials, most notably Don Kayne, president and CEO of the combined sawmilling and pulp-and-paper aspects of the forestry giant.

Although Canfor was not founded in Prince George - the company began as a paneling veneer company in New Westminister in 1938 by John Prentice and Poldi Bentley - their corporate expansion arrived here in 1962 and grew exponentially over the years.

Canfor is now this city's largest private sector employer. It is also one of the biggest industrial players in the province, and considered among the largest forestry firms in the world.
