Friends and family of missing and murdered women are encourage to attend when a the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry Community community engagement forum is held tomorrow in Prince George.

Headed by former Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General Wally Oppal, the forum will be held at the Civice Centre, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in advance of the inquiry's formal start at the end of this month.

The Commission was launched to examine the Crown's decision against proceeding to trial on 20 cases against Robert Willy Pickton after the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the original six convictions against Pickton.

Jacqueline Marie Murdock, a member of the Takla First Nation, was among those women suspected of being murdered by Pickton for whom no trial has been held.

However, the Commission's terms of reference also allow it to inquire into the investigation of missing women and suspected multiple murders throughout the province.

At least 18 women have gone missing along the so-called Highway of Tears between Prince George and Prince Rupert since 1969.

Oppal has until Dec. 31 to deliver a report.
