The Missing Women Commission of Inquiry has dipped into its existing budget to hire two independent lawyers to take guidance from unfunded participant groups and affected organizations and individuals.
Commissioner Wally Oppal had recommended 13 participants get funding adding up to $1.5 million, but B.C. is only paying for a lawyer for the families of Pickton's victims. So far, more than half of those groups, including the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC) have decided not to participate, and others are considering doing the same.
