A missing Quesnel woman is missing no longer, and her loved ones are cheering with relief.

Quesnel RCMP told The Citizen on Monday that Darlene Preteau, 66, was now accounted for, safe and sound.

"She made contact with her family over the weekend and also has spoken with police," said Quesnel RCMP spokeswoman Const. Krista Vrolyk.

"We are satisfied that she is alive and well. This [her disappearance] was very unexpected and completely out of character for her, so there was a great deal of concern with her family members and a great deal of relief for everyone involved in the search that she is indeed alive and well."

Preteau was last seen on Feb. 27 and after a few days without any form of contact, loved ones sounded the alarm.

Details on her current whereabouts were withheld, but police did acknowledge that it was a case that had people worried.

"You just never know, and we have seen real examples of people who go missing like this and it ends in tragedy or it continues on under a question mark with no closure," said Vrolyk. "For the public, the questions become, is there somebody out there doing harm to people? Has something serious happened? So when you get a resolution it means a lot for those involved."

There is no foul play involved in this case and no further police follow-up is necessary, said Vrolyk. She thanked Preteau's family for coming forward to get the investigation going, and thanked Preteau for coming forward to make her whereabouts known.
