Local police service dog Dero and his handler recently located a missing toddler after the two-year-old child wandered out of the yard at a residence off North Nechako Road.
On Tuesday at about 11 a.m, the caregiver left the toddler in the unfenced yard to tend to another child in the house and when the caregiver returned moments later, the child was gone.
Multiple officers responded to the emergency call and the RCMP service dog Dero was deployed. Within minutes the child was located about 80 metres away in a wooded area behind the residence. The child was happily playing and unharmed.
Local police would like to remind the public to pay very close attention to young children. It only takes a minute or less for them to wander.
Police are very happy the child was unharmed, said Cpl. Craig Douglass in a news release about the incident.
