A local Prince George girl grabbed the regional title at the Miss B.C. 2010 competition this past Sunday.

Jaymie Lee Derkson, who was sponsored by Northland Hyundai, was crowned Miss Northern B.C. at the annual charity event, which takes place every summer at Chief Sepass Theatre in Fort Langley.

"We are very excited for her. It's really impressive to see somebody grow and develop, and be able to go down to such a huge event and be successful," said Kyle Buchman, general manager of Northland Hyundai.

This year was Miss B.C.'s biggest yet with 46 contestants, and raising a total $32,000 for the Cops for Cancer organization.

Each contestant received professional training in modeling, stage presence, manners and etiquette, self-esteem, interview skills, public speaking, self-defence and assertiveness.
